In a past life, the Buick Regal GS sported a supercharged 3.8L V6 engine. That engine was good enough to make 240 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. It was a tremendous car, and the Regal GS is one of the longest running reminders of the power in Buick’s heritage.

The 2017 Buick Regal GS doesn’t have a supercharger built into its engine.

And it doesn’t need it.

2017 Buick Regal GS Surpasses Its Legacy

The Buick Regal is synonymous with sophistication and class. The 2017 Regal GS backs the stylish reputation with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This car is every bit as lively on the road as it is classy in the showroom.

The engine in the 2017 Regal GS churns out an impressive 259 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft of torque. Not only is that more powerful than the old Regal’s supercharged V6, but it’s even more power than the Lexus IS 250’s 2.0L turbo (241 HP). The GS’s turbocharger provides additional power by reusing combustion cycle exhaust to provide the engine with a steady stream of pressurized air.

Behind the 2.0L engine is a Hydra-Matic 6T70 6-speed automatic transmission. The 6T70 is produced by General Motors specifically for use in front-wheel-drive vehicles whose engine is mounted perpendicular to the long axis.

The technical wonderment of the engine and transmission coalesce to supply a drivetrain capable of making the GS a nimble sedan on the highway as well as winding mountain roads.

Choose How You Drive

The GS’s capabilities under the hood are complemented by Buick’s innovative selective ride control feature, giving drivers three different experiences at the wheel: standard, sport, and GS. The different modes are conveniently changed with the press of a button.

In standard mode, the powertrain and suspension correspond to the needs of normal driving conditions. In sport mode, the suspension stiffens to grip the road more securely. In GS mode, the suspension stiffens, power steering assistance is reduced, and the accelerator is more responsive. Selective ride control allows drivers to take full advantage of the GS’s extensive capabilities.

Premium Features

Power isn’t the only luxury the Regal GS offers over other trim levels. The GS delivers a fully-loaded list of features that includes:

  • Bose® speakers
  • Stainless steel dual-exhaust
  • Remote vehicle start
  • 8” infotainment display
  • Sport bucket front seats.

These features combined with the turbocharged engine and the Hydra-Matic transmission make the Regal GS a commanding yet sleek sedan.
